fuel pump/sending unit

My 1997 is getting a carbureted 302 instead of fuel injection. I have been thinking of using a good electric inline fuel pump kinda like a holley street pump. curious about my fuel gage and exsiting fuel pump? should I keep it all hooked up and run a good regulator and have a return line to the tank? could use some ideas
