Re: i got my steering gear box in
it bolted in the only thing is the steering wheel was off but I have a after market steering wheel so I just changed it. it turns a lot easier now. ps box was 33 pounds and non power was 16 pounds
Re: i got my steering gear box in
Is that a strip only truck? If not I believe you will regret that move, we went to manual steering on the boy's 85 when we first built it. Turning that thing in a parking lot or when not moving was like wrestling a bear. I put P/S back in rather quickly. Not trying to badmouth you or anything just telling you stuff from my experience.

Re: i got my steering gear box in
It also depends on how wide the front tires are. With stock or skinnier tires, then a manual might not be too bad. But With wider tires, yeah I'm not sure how that will work. I rather like my PS.
But I do have to admit when the thing was a V6, the PS fluid was a constant source of leak. I had to keep a bottle of ATF in the truck because the PS fluid would run dry every few weeks. Everything under the PS pump was always coated in fluid. The good thing about that was when I pulled the V6 to put the V8 in, there wasn't a single bit of rust anywhere in that side of the engine bay or suspension. Everything was pristine (once the grime was pressure washed off).

Re: i got my steering gear box in
So lighter AND because of accessory limitations, you NEEDED the manual box. In that case, it is perfectly justified.

Re: i got my steering gear box in
Yep, strip only I would want manual steering too. When I did alot of racing I preferred manual steering cause I could feel track better, and the weight thing is always a plus.
