That looks real good, think the block will hold together? Just for giggles, post up what all you have in it.

347 around 12.5 comp, .675/.675 lift cam, comp solid lift, non ported dart 195 pro1 heads,750 proform-holley carb, victor jr intake, timing was locked out at 32 and carb was 82 jets. it has a main cap support,4340 crank, h beem rod. going to shift it at 6,000 to try and make it stay together

What are the other cam specs such as duration (both adv & .050") centerlines, and LSA? Being you are in the 12.5 CR range, I have to believe the .050" durations are at LEAST in the 230s and an LSA somewhere in the 108-110 range.

That's a seriously aggressive cam. It's almost a shame it's being limited to 6000 RPMs. It's just getting going at 6000 and could easily support 7000...obviously the other engine components might not.

Can it idle below 900 or is it too unstable?

he said it could make more hp but the block may not make it. he said for what we have he thinks thats a safe amount to 6,000.

I've seen blocks let go with between 450-500 hp, some an take a lot more.

A lot of whether a block can take more has to do with the setup and whether it is carbed or EFI controlled.

Too much spark can put significant stress on the block with minimal additional horses. In those conditions, you can retard the spark and get more power out of the engine by pushing more air/fuel through. So having computer control over spark is invaluable.

On boosted engines, you tend to loose a lot of power through the booster. If you are supercharged and don't have an innercooler, or a really inefficient booster, a significant portion of the power you make is feeding the booster. So you may only be getting 450hp at the flywheel, but the engine is producing a heck of a lot more than that and feeding the difference to the supercharger. This is why turbo engines tend to make more flywheel power than supercharged engines...less parasitic load for the same boost pressures. That's why you hear of people routinely making 600hp on turbo'd stock blocks, but people with superchargers often split far sooner.

i got the motor in today and it went in fast. trying to get that pos alternator bracket from cvf to work took longer than installing the motor, headers. i called and they said i had the wrong pulley but the alternator was hitting the head. they said i need to turn the alt but the pulley was about 3/4 of a inch off. i made my own spacers and used all thread on one bolt and it worked. also the rod part was way to long it put my alternator over to hit the frame. i had to use my speed doctor parts to make it work.

drove the truck in the drive way and this thing has a lot more power than before. when the weather gets better we are going to try the track. I think the truck will get into the low 11s in the 1/4 mile the way it is now. the truck has stock axles so if we can get a few passes to see what the 3:55 gear is good for i'll now if I need to go to a 4:30 gear or not.
