Hey guys long time no see, life has been crazy. Moved around a bunch, changed job a bunch, and ended up back where I started to help take care of family.
Easy question, is the 4.0 explorer radiator about the only (factory) option with the swap?
Or will a mustang radiator fit down in there? I haven't been out to Dads in long time or I'd eyeball it.

Re: Radiator Question
Are you asking what will fit or are you asking what is a bolt-in solution?
The Ranger came in a 2-core radiator option for 4x4 automatics. I don't know for sure if it was limited to only the 4.0L or not.
As for what can be fit in there, I know if you do some cutting and reframing up of stuff, you can get most anything to fit. The limits aren't in width or depth as much as it is with height.

Re: Radiator Question
I went ahead and pulled the motor and cleaned under the hood and just dropped the 4.0 radiator I had in there. Fits like a glove.

If I remember correctly, The dual core radiator was only on the 4.0L with either 4x4 or Super cooling/towing package.cgrey8 wrote:The Ranger came in a 2-core radiator option for 4x4 automatics. I don't know for sure if it was limited to only the 4.0L or not.

Re: Radiator Question
Mine came out of a 91 with 4x4. Looking to steal its gas tank soon as well, soon as I manage to kill the wasps that taken up residence. Got stung right by my eye getting the radiator.

Re: Radiator Question
The larger gas tank is nice. The 89 Ranger has the smaller 17 gallon tank that seems more like a 15 gallon tank. My 97 Ranger has the larger (actually just longer) 21 gallon tank. I'd much rather have the larger tank in the 89.

Re: Radiator Question
I haven't looked into it yet, but will the sending unit from the 91 work with my cluster or will I need to swap the 87 sending unit into the 91 tank? If no one knows its np, I'll try and figure it out with a voltmeter.
I got a few pics of the swap, waiting till I drop motor and trans in then will prob start a thread. Got a feeling the worse part will be the wiring from the fast efi kit, doing the fuel lines, and probably fixing the brakes. Truck sat since early 90's. Only has 50k miles on it, almost feel bad pulling it all apart.

Re: Radiator Question
In 89, the sending unit FULL and EMPTY resistances changed. Not only did they change, but the "direction" the resistance changs from FULL to EMPTY also changed making 88-older fuel sending units and 89-newer fuel sending units completely incompatible with their corresponding dash gauges.
