351 Tri Y headers

Post by 87sc302 »

I think this has been asked before but will the tri y headers for 302 fit 351 windsor with T-5.
My 302 has been in my Ranger for over 10 years and I am wanting to update.
I have a 95 GT engine complete with computer and harness. I know this is not he best engine to start
from but but it is still better than the non roller currently in my Ranger.
The other option is 351 windsor. But headers are always the question.

I always argue that there's very little you can't do with a 302 block thus I personally would find a 351w conversion a hard thing to justify. I don't mean to piss off those that have done this swap. It's an impressive swap. But from a purely practical standpoint, I just can't see the benefit that a 351w would give relative to what can be done with a 302...and for a heck of a lot less headache.

I don't know that this makes your decision, but it should be something to at least consider.

If you do go with the 95 engine, will it go in stock or with mods?

Chris

I like the 351 for the displacement increase. I know you went the stroker route but I think the 351 would be cheaper even with the mods required.

If I do the 302 I would do the rebuild with nice heads, cam and tuning,ie, typical bolt ons. I want a good driver.

Even have thought about supercharger on the 302 but with streetable pressures.

Right now just thinkin out loud. Need to get rid of a couple other projects first. Paint the cab on my 1991 f150 300 six ( put stepside on last month) and 1982 corvette aquired from recently retired brother in law.

If you already have a 351w, then that's probably true. Thus the choice of 351w vs 302 is a tough one if you don't mind the complications of the 351w. Another issue I vaguely recall is if you use an F150 intake on the 351w, you'll have clearance issues with the hood. I believe Adam M. in California found he had to do a body lift to get the hood to clear. The same thing "might" be true if you ran the 302 with the very similarly designed 302 F150 intake.
