I'd never seen this before. Thought I'd share it here.

It is interesting to see that others outside Ford also thought a V8 Ranger was worthy...just not Ford. I hope they are happy knowing they lost the small truck lead to Toyota, Nissan, and Dodge.

Yup I remember that, at the time there was a lot of chatter inside of Ford and it was really thought that Ford was gonna pull the trigger and do it. But as you know it never happened, it would have outsold the F-150 so they couldn't do it.

The earliest V-8 swap that SVO did was back in '87' using mostly F-150 parts and the proto-type 8.8 rear end. Thought I had the full article scanned in but found only the parts list. Malcolm and a bunch of other site moderators actually got invited to Dearborn to meet and discuss Rangers with the Ford engineers -- long, long time ago.

Yeah that was some time ago. It was in 2000 Ford flew me out to Detroit and gave me a tour of their advanced engineering physicality. In exchange they picked my brain for two full days about Rangers. Not just about V8 Rangers but everything from suspension to interior and everything in between. Was a heck of a nice trip I'll always remember, got to take some laps around a track with a professional driver behind the wheel of the Ranger and also a little Lincoln if I remember right hauling ass sliding out around 90 mph on the corners.

They also had a crew cab Ranger on hand like they sell in other countries and I got to sit inside and check it out. At the time the 2001 Ranger had not been released to the public and I got a pre glimpse which was cool. Good times.
