Cowl hoods

Post by 87sc302 »

What is the best cowl hood for my 87 ranger.I am thinking about a 3 "cowl.
I do not wnat a lift off or hood pins. I have heard good and bad on Champion hoods.
Should I just add a cowl scoop on factory hood?
Any experience?
Thanks

I know www.usbodysource.com use to have Ranger hoods. I did a quick search and did not see them but might be worth checking into. I know they use to have a one piece tilt front end for your truck. We almost ordered one for the boys truck at one time. Many of times I have kicked myself for not doing it. If it was me I would probably just put a scoop on the factory hood, gotta believe it would be much cheaper that way. That is if you can do body work at all.

Plowboy,
I think you are right I have an extra factory hood so this looks like a good fall project.

I ordered mine from these guys, I believe
http://www.up22.com/

Not a hood, I bought a 2.5" cowl for a Fox body Mustang and grafted it into a second hood for my '97. The Mustang hood is about 8" longer than the Ranger, but the lines were parallel.

If you want a complete hood, there must be a few early hoods around. I don't recall if an '89 hood will work on an '88 Ranger.
