I started this build in Oct. and just finished last weekend. It started out as a 1999 4 cyl stick. Now it has a 1989 virgin roller block 5.0 with a lot of goodies and a TCI C4 trans. The engine checked out on the dyno at 396hp. I have over 100 photos of this build which on a 99 coil spring is different than previous years. If i can answer any questions and help someone doing this build i would be happy to provide what i can. It is quite impressive to drive but very driveable. Nice and smooth and cruses nice. But when you step on the pedal you sure know its not a 4 cyl anymore.

Re: Build is complete
First of all Congrats on the build! Red my favorite color. I did just get a green one that really breaks my streak. You say a comp cam but little bit more on that and maybe more indepth on the motor.

looks good. i would change that fan looks like one that killed a man down the road. he was standing over the fan and reving the motor up and a blade came off and killed him.

Or at least put a good fan shroud on. My bmw 330CI threw a fan blade a few months ago and it came out with so much force it destroyed the fan shroud but everything behind it was saved so I guess it did it's job.faststang90 wrote:looks good. i would change that fan looks like one that killed a man down the road. he was standing over the fan and reving the motor up and a blade came off and killed him.

Re: Build is complete
I will get some pics posted later today. The fan is a Derale 1 piece steel good for 10,000 rpm, might look funny because of the 3" spacer. I ended up with more room than i figured. I am in the process of building a shroud and it will be installed in a week or so. Also i did not have to modify the heater box at all. The dipstick was tricky, the steering shaft had to be removed and reinstalled when the engine was in place, it runs thru the space between the dipstick and the mounting bracket.

Re: Build is complete
I used an earlier front cover with the dip stick in front of the engine, works great and out of the way.

Mark, how are you getting an accurate reading with that dip-stick set-up? I've got the pan with the dip-stick in it, well the hole at least.carvinmark wrote:I used an earlier front cover with the dip stick in front of the engine, works great and out of the way.
