i have a 1994 ranger that is just a track truck. whats the fastest 1/4 times people are running. its just a stock 302 with long tube headers, c4 tranny and the best its been was a 14.70@89 mph. i checked the plugs and it looked like it was running lean so we rejetted the carb and took it back but it got hot on us and blew a head gasket. so when i took it apart i did not like what i seen so i got a set of heads and just going to c if i can get it any faster.

Hey welcome first poster! I posted in another thread of a guy I know down in N. Il who is running a bone stock Explorer motor and auto trans, 4.10 gears (all JY parts by the way) and he is just around 14.8, forget the speed. That's in a reg cab so little lighter.
Nice looking truck you got there!

ty the person before me was thinking it was a good idea to cut wieght out of the doors and cut to much and the windows fall down so i had to go get 2 doors for it. the truck has a 6 point cage in it but it only has one seat. every time the scales at the track was broke so not sure what the wieght is. when it was at the track i had a lot of people tell me it was good to see a ford ranger running. the guy before me had a 347 in it i think he said he had it in to mid 11s on motor.

I'm not normally a fan of gutting cars as it makes them trashy for the street but in this case you have a dedicated track vehicle so might as well lighten it up. Weight makes a HUGE difference.

Yep, I've seen too many people go crazing cutting away stuff they really shouldn't have. Was going to ask if you had a Stang based on your sign in name. We sometimes speak Mustang here also. Not too many of us here actually run a lot at the strip, mostly just DD. Some have some healty motors anyway. Old Trucker used to on a lot, he's got a 347 with the old GMC type blower on his with a tilt front end.

i had a 1993 coupe is was doing. i was setting it up to run true 10.5. i was doing a ford 572 motor with a single 101 mm turbo and trick flow A heads. i was about to send the motor out to the shop to get built and i had a guy it me on my hayabusa bike. so that stopped the car build i was in icu asleep for 16 days and i was there a total of 45 days. so i traded it for this ranger. i cant race any more so i let my dad race the truck.

i was looking to make over 2,000 hp with the big turbo and bbf. the ranger is nice because im not putting alot of money in it. i still would like to get the ranger in to the low 11s or high 10s 1/4 mile and call it done.

I find it hard to get in the 10's with a small block unless you have lots of cash in it but I love those high RPM's  so that keeps me running those screaming small blocks.

to get in to the 10s i think i may have to go to a 351 based motor. if i can get it to run high 12s-mid 12s i be happy with it

There's nothing wrong with a 351. They are excellent engines. However they just don't work with Rangers without issues like no standard headers work well. No aftermarket 351w Ranger headers are made, so your option is to custom fab headers if you want headers.

That being said, it is far better to stick with the 302 block. The 302 stock block can handle upwards of 650hp before they split. In a 2wd Ranger, that's a LOT of power to plant to the ground and you aren't likely to plant it any better with a 351w. So how do you get that? Heads, intake, cam, blower, headers, stroker kit, etc etc....in other words, you need a budget. But it can be done. 87ranger setup his AFR185 equipped 347 stroker with twin turbos. I can't remember what his track numbers were, but I remember it being pretty impressive for a truck.

i know a guy that i worked with did a 514 in a ranger but its a tube chassis truck. if i go to a 351 im going to do custom headers. aaron built this truck. only thing about a 351 is i got to many parts for a 302 so i may just do a 347
