Lake Emergency Overflow A Mile From House
This is why my farmland is six feet under, and now they are going to blow birds point levee like Missouri don't already have enough water. This is Wappapello Lake emergency spillway which is about a mile from my house. I am not exactly sure how to post youtube stuff but will try. If it doesn't work if someone who knows how would fix it I would appreciate it.

Re: Lake Emergency Overflow A Mile From House
Worked for me! I worked for 24 years in the hydro industry and the power of water is truly amazing. Man, sure sorry to hear about your land. Seems like a rough year for way too many people. I asked at one site, wondering what the hurracane seaon looked like. Couple of good ones and we will see $6/gal gas.

Re: Lake Emergency Overflow A Mile From House
I thought you guys were close. I guess that's one reason I like to see where people are at least in general location. Over at TRS, one of the moderators lives 10 miles from me, another guy I have sold parts to lives 25 miles north. One guy lives in Rockford, IL, my old home town and have met him for a couple of cold ones on a trip down there last Fall. Another guy from N. Ill I have met, have loaned him the CPS tool and then sold him the 5.0L blower. Really nice to put a face to a name and actually meet them. Lots of great people out there, sure a lot here!

Re: Lake Emergency Overflow A Mile From House
I got to thinking last night about the corps of engineers and how nervious I think they about all that water moving South. They almost lost the main control structure North of New Orlenans back in '73' and they've got a lot more water now. It acts as the water flow diverter that bypasses excess water from the Mississippi to the river that runs parralle. They were diverting so much water over that dam that it almost got washed out. If that would have happened, the Mississippi would have changed course in days. Man is never going to totally win the battle with Mother Nature. Little picture of the whole control structure.

Re: Lake Emergency Overflow A Mile From House
We havent had any major flooding where im at, just allot of rain... It seams like thats all it has done here for the last month is rain.... 1 day of sun, 2 days of rain...... The ground is so wet and soft.. I was finaly able to mow my yard the other day, but not without getting rained on for a few minutes. lol... All this rain and wind has made it hard to go turkey hunting...... Like someone said, one good huricain and gas will be at $5 and $6 a gallon... Its all ready $4.06 here. I wont be driving my Ranger much this year. It likes the good stuff, and at 10mpg it will be sitting, right along with the boat....

Re: Lake Emergency Overflow A Mile From House
I dont know how everything up north is going, however I know theres a few guys here at work that live in Butte La Rose, La along the Atchafalaya river that are expecting to lose everything. With the opening of the Morganza Spillway, they're expecting water to crest 3-5 feet above their houses. Worse part is flood insurance companies already told Governor Jindal they won't cover losses because it's a "man made disaster" due to the opening of the spillway.

I think thats a bunch of bull crap... They should still have to pay... If they dont then the goverment better... I feel bad for all those people that are going to loose everything... I sure hope someone pays......Chris wrote:I dont know how everything up north is going, however I know theres a few guys here at work that live in Butte La Rose, La along the Atchafalaya river that are expecting to lose everything. Re: Lake Emergency Overflow A Mile From House
Fortunately it doesn't look as bad as originally feared. By Tuesday the river was expected to be above the highway 190 bridge. That hasn't happened yet and last I heard was still a foot or so below the bridge. I think the severe drought conditions have really helped.
I agree though, it is a load of poop. The insurance market here is so corrupt, it's really ridiculous. It took my wife and I 6 months to close on our house because nobody wanted to sell us an insurance policy. We ended up getting stuck with a state run company that screwed us over after hurricane Rita.

Re: Lake Emergency Overflow A Mile From House
The insurance companies tried that here in Mo when they blew the birds point levee but the state told them they were gonna pay or face fines that would make paying out a drop in the bucket. From what I understand they are gonna pay.
Dave, My land is still flooded cause the gates of the lake are wide open but the level is about six feet down so that's good. At least it is no longer going over spillway.
