Hey Chris,
I know you're really into tuning and that's awesome. I've always wanted to tinker with it. Not sure if you saw my post on the forum but I've gotten a Honda Civic I'm turbo'ing and plan on tuning it myself since I really want to learn tuning. I know you've been doing it a while and know a fair amount about it. There's a good chance I will end up with the Hondata S300 because I can get it used from a guy. However others tell me the Neptune option is also pretty cool. Others on the budget side (isn't that all of us really? lol) use a product called Chrome. It appears to use a Moates chip. From what I can tell Chrome seems very limited but this is just my assumption.
The s300 and the Neptune seem to allow adjustments on the fly with the engine running which is really cool. I could have a buddy drive while I tune live on the fly from the passenger's seat.
I wanted to see if you've heard of any of these systems and or have any advice on them. Since I've never tuned a car I'm not entirely sure what to look at in terms of features etc.
Maybe something stands out to you that makes one way better than the other etc?

I know next to nothing about Honda tuning options. In fact, you've told me more in this thread than I knew before. So unfortunately, I'm not going to be much help on this one. But I bet asking Craig Moates would yield some answers. It'd be interesting to hear about what tuning options are available for Hondas.

LOL ok. Was just checking. I've seen screen shots you've posted in the past and the screen shots I saw on the various websites had some similarities in what appeared to be x and y axis and updating tables of say fuel vs load etc. Like I said I'm new to tuning but to me it seemed like if you can do one the others should be easy. That's probably over simplifying it to much.

If I was going to tune a Honda, I'm sure getting used to how wouldn't be near the learning curve now that I've dealt with a different tuning setup. But there are undoubtedly going to be some philosophical differences and differences in terms & usage. But otherwise the basics of things like MAF, Injector Slopes, Spark conversions, Fuel Tables, Transient Fueling, Open Loop vs Closed Loop, Spark Tables, EGR, Cam Controls, etc are all likely to exist and be somewhat similar.

I agree and I think the knowledge you've learned with all your tuning and tinkering would go a long way. I'm sure you have a pretty good understanding of how timing, fuel etc. affect the vehicle at different loads and rpms from all your playing around.
My plan is to go slow at it and play with the tune out of boost and get a good idea as to how it all works and then slowly go into boost with just a few PSI initially and slowly work my way up as I understand the system more.
