2wd with transfer case

Post by ranger50toy »

Anybody see why this wouldn't wotk. I am planning out a Dune hopper/Prerunner that can be steet driven and was wondering about using a chain driven transfer case in a 2wd. I was looking at removing the chain and letting the front output flange just free spin. This would give me a selectable low range for playing in the sand while still uing a highway friendly rear end gear. Any suggestions for a t-case? I currently have a c-4 and 3.55 gears.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. I removed the front driveshaft from my AWD transfer case in my blue truck many a times when working on one thing or another and it ran just fine. I don't know about the C4 but on the 4r70w I ran in my truck the 2x4 and 4x4 versions of the tranny had different output flanges and swapping them out meant tearing down the whole entire tranny so it was not practical unless rebuilding the tranny. Hopefully it's easier for the C4. Someone else should be able to let you know.
