Steering box replacement

Post by redline »

Having seen a few questions concerning conversion to a steering rack I was curious as to what all that consisted of and if the labor involved was worth the gains in a cleaner under hood appearance and minimal HP gains along with the added clearance at the headers frt lft corner of the block and heads, Shawn :?:

I had to swap mine to manual. the giant rubber donut in the stock steering column wouldnt clear my headers (Hooker Super Swap). Plus i didn't already have a ps pump and bracket so it was easier to goto manual. Bolts directly up. I also redid my steering shaft. Seems like the spline count on the manual vs PS box was also different.

Is the manuel unit any smaller than the power unit, if the gains in clearance are worth it ill do that, just havent seen any in the wrecking yard to do a comparision in size, Shawn 8)
