Engine stand mod w/ Video

Post by Warpig Racing »

Here was one of my projects for the day.

I used a slack adjuster and cam from semi trucks air brakes. It has a 22:1 gear reduction on the crank so it will be easy to turn with a V-8 on it. Ploblem with the standard engine stands is that there are limited positions that you can set you engine at. Also when it has a big v-8 with all the accessories, it is very difficult to turn. Not any more. I got the idea from my uncle who had a fully dressed 350 on his stand and it was a piece of cake to rotate. Later this week it will have my brothers Ford 391 industrial engine on it for some much needed upgrades. So we will see how well it work then.

Here is the video

Dude, That is very cool. Sure you want to show everybody that. It could be your claim to fame and riches. I like it.

It wasnt my idea. I got the idea from someone else that did it. No patent no since it no longer qualifies as a original idea.

My old man's stand that he has is like that. Something that was bought, not made... keep in mind this is to work on diesel engines and the like for construction equipment. Stuff that weighs a little more than your average small block.

You don't think you'll ever have a problem with the axle looking rig slipping out and dumping your engine on the floor? I've never seen one that slides in and out.

Im not worried about the engine slipping out. All engine stands that I have seen, the adapter plate slides out so you can easily mount the engine.

I started taking out that 391 industrial engine out of my brothers bus. That thing is a massive engine. And that Tranny is HUGE! This will be a good test for the modified engine stand.
