Explorer 5.0L on E-Bay

Post by Dave »

This is one of the cleanest Explorers 5.0's I've seen in a long time! They did a great job in pulling it and capping off all the openings. Looks like all the wiring is intact. I pulled up and saved all the included pictures just for future reference. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Those were some really detailed pictures. Unfortunately, it's too new of an engine for me to consider. It has the returnless fuel system and it has the upper/lower intake that doesn't have the EGR provision. Neither of those are deal-killers if the price is right.

One interesting thing I did notice in those pics is that the oil filter adapter is longer and does NOT have the integrated oil cooler like my 97 Explorer engine did. I'm curious why they did away with it. Not necessary? Problems with it? I should probably update the old Explorer thread that contains the details of year-to-year differences with that tidbit. I frequently revisit that thread to remember when certain changes happened when they come up on other threads at EECTuning.org.

Hey Chris, good catch on that oil filter adapter. I just did a quick save on the pictures without really looking at any certain detail. That adapter is really long, must be for the 2001 only. Wonder also why the change, no need for the oil cooler anymore? Anyway, 66K miles sounded good, other things are minor. Got all the front dress which is a big plus and the wiring. Just having to replace the fan, couple of bad pulleys and the resevoir for the power steering gets expensive.
You finially out of the deep freeze down there? They're actually calling for above freezing for the next six days up here, about time. Hasn't been really bad with either the snow or cold - knock on wood!

Those pics are very useful, thanks!

I just boght a '96 5.0 Ex, this gives me a good look at a similar motor, as i haven't ripped mine apart yet. (still playing with the truck- AWD + 3.73 Traction lok, fun!)

So many 'little" parts to clean up my truck further, like the soft part of the heater hoses, hood hinges, fuel rails if they would work (rumor is they won't), you get the idea.

That motor I had bought it on ebay a while back but they sent me the wrong motor in the shipment in stead I got a 97 with the oil filter adapter. It has been relisted. Rather than sending back the 97 and getting the 00 motor I purchased I decided to stick with it.
