It's not the 302 windsor, but it's still interesting that a 5.0 Mustang will return to showrooms and the streets.

That would be something. Bring back the 5.0 in the form of a mod motor. I love the new Mustang, except for the tail. They screwed the pooch on that one badly! Just my opinion mind ya.

I'd be curious to see how it runs. I know quite a few guys have done the 5.0 cammer motor on the Cobra forums but complained after the bore/stroke to get to 5.0 it didn't rev as snappy and fast as it did when it was a 4.6. Well complained is probably to harsh of a word, the cars made plenty of power. I guess reported back with some disappointment would be a better way of putting it.

I gotta agree on the rear end of the 2010 mustangs, dropped the ball on that one. They should have kept the 05 rear side and it would have made a great looking Mustang.

Man, the Mustang sites have been going crazy for months waiting for the final news. 160 mph spedo and the 8K tach. Have to check but max power at 6500 rpm.

Check out the bottom end on this sucker!. Ford engineers say it is built to take 12:1 compression and is designed for future direct injection. They started with all fresh ideas and designs. Lots came from the original Coyotie motor from Indy racing.

I was really supprised to see the tube type headers show up again, hope they are better constructed this time! Think the engineers (rather than the "bean counters) really spent some time on this block and redesigning it. Them block side skirts extending that far down remind me of how Ford strenghtened the bottom end of the old FE engines. Let Roush or Steeda or Shelby get ahold of one of them with a good blower and you'll be looking at 600 RWHP.

That 2nd article I posted talked a little bit about the headers. But like you, I was a little surprised they are going with the tube-style that share pipes with other cylinders. I can't help but believe that dedicated 4-pipe headers will produce more HP than those will. Perhaps they are leaving something for the aftermarket too do? With an 80mm TB, tuned composite intake, computer designed heads, and computer controlled variable cam timing, there won't be much you can replace on these engines without screwing up the balance. Adding headers, a supercharger, or possibly turbos will be about it.

That article also talked a little about the cams and how they have some mechanism that somehow recovers the "twist" that builds up in a cam? I don't quite know what that's all about, but it sounds interesting. Hopefully in 5-6 years or so, the aftermarket will know more about how to work with this engine. And eventually, you'll hear about someone that's put one of these new 5.0s in a Ranger.

At least they finally got the displacement of this engine such that it correctly rounds to 5.0L. The Windsor 302 in stock form just barely rounds to 302 and by all rights should've been badged as a 4.9L. I guess Ford didn't want the 302 V8 being confused with the 300 L6 which is also badged as a 4.9L.

That new tube header design kinda reminds me of the old tri-y headers for the early 289's and 302's. I'm thinking that ne 5.0 would look good in an early model Ranger!

With today's computer modeling and such, Ford did it for reason. Better scavenging of the cylinders? Don't worry about the aftermarket catching up with the new motor, that's one thing Ford takes care of ahead of time for quite a few years. Lot of their valued aftermarket suppliers have had the info they need for a couple of months now. Places like Roush, Sheby, Stedda and Saleen have all had a partnership aggrement with Ford for years. They are probalby making the lower intakes for the blowers right now

Don't count the "little 4.6" out yet, still got some zip in them! Some of us still have hope. This is still stock, well Roush stock.

Any chance this new 5.0L will have the same bell housing bolt pattern as the Windsors?

It's also interesting that this new engine will also be made in Windsor just like the old 302...that won't add any confusion.

Chris, your the second one that has asked about the bellhousing. I doubt it, just like the 4.6 was different from the "old" Windsor. Are the motor assembled in Windsor or is that just the old foundary? I thought they were being assembled in the old Ranger plant in NJ.
