One badass mustang

Post by usmcrp1044 »

Saw this in the January 09 of hotrod magazine, checked out the websites.

First GT500 to run an 8 second quarter mile, on a bone stock engine and auto transmission. And my favorite part, it still is a street car w/ full interior. I dont know if it says it in the video, but the magazine article I have says it.

I've only seen a few of these cars in person, but they are an awesome ride.

Anyway, heres the video

Where do you see that it has different cams? I know it's twin turboed, but it still would be a stock engine, just with a whole lot more air being crammed down it's throat.

The 'credit' part of the video says it's the first 100%stock ford motor to make an 8 second pass in a 1/4 mile and that it's the first motor to rear wheel dyno over 1019 horsepower. It says nothing about cams, even if it did have a different cam in it, thats pretty impressive.

I'd love to see someone take a 302, with nothing but a new cam and a set of dual turbos make 1019 rwhp. I'm guessing the engine might take a little damage before it gets there.

Looks like the car was built up in stages. I was clicking on diff videos and in one of them, I think it was the kenne bell video, says it had cams too. Unless those were all different cars? Either way impressive. When those GT500s first came out I considered selling my 03 for one but decided to stick with the 03 for now.

Yeah, I looked around the site to but didnt realize the different cams. Like you said, I think the car was built in stages.

The car, if it is the same one, has ran the first 10 second, 9 second, then 8 second quarter mile.

The 9 second videos are on youtube, I dont think much was done to the engine. I know it had a different pulley and like a 75-100 shot of nitrous or something. They ran the nitrous purge through the front of the cobra, it looks totally badass.

Yeah definitely very cool. It has the same basic motors as the 03/04 Cobras but a 5.4 instead of a 4.6. I imagine those motors respond to mods much like the 03s. I had a CAI and cat back exhaust and nothing else and my car dyno'd 411 to the rear tires. Then I change the s/c pulley and had the eaton ported (no cash for a kenne bell yet) and it dyno'd 486 hp in mid summer heat. In cooler weather I went back and it dyno'd 512 to the rear tires.
Wish I had the cash to add a GT500 to the garage :)

Yep, that's an amazzing car the guy has built, look really good on take-off.
I do remember seeing an article of a guy doing something real similar with
his Ford GT and was getting right close to 1200hp and was looking for 1500. So much power that he had to have special clutchs made. Can't believe the power these things can put out. Back in the late 60's having a streatable 10 sec car was hard to find, no matter what class they were running.

Bone stock rods, crank, and pistons that support 1000+ HP? Maybe so but my money is on that they wont hold up for long. Soon there will be a video of someone sweeping up them parts off the ground at the track.

lol, hey we just saw about 5 runs or so, and it held up pretty good. :D I've heard nothing but good things about the 4.6 and 5.4 engines when it comes to being able to withstand horsepower, I forget what I was told they can safely handle, but it was an impressive number.

You right 1000hp is a ton but I believe bone stock is all forged internals. I know my 03 is. Forged steel crank, manely rods etc. So likely it's pretty tough.
The only weak thing on the 03s is the tight piston to wall clearance. Guys are boring them .020 over and using aftermarket pistons with more piston to wall clearance and running 700 rwhp all day long and not breaking a thing. So they claim anyways :) lol

Are you sure that the stock componets can handle 1000HP? Seems a little extreme for the pistions based on other posts that i have recently read.
