cgrey8, bellhousing - tunnel clearance pic

Post by MalcolmV8 »

Here's a pic I snapped, like you asked for, right before I put the tranny back in. Not the greatest of shots but I think you get the idea. There's two clearance areas knocked in there.
The larger lower one is for the external hydraulic slave. The second higher indention is to remove the bell housing. It doesn't look like much but without it you can't pull the bell housing while the passanger's header is installed. I'm sure this varies with each person's setup but if you ever want to change your clutch later down the road make sure you can get the bell housing out while the exhaust is installed.

That helps a lot. If you can snap more, that'd be great. However it looks like you were preparing to install the tranny right when you snapped that since you had a clutch alignment tool in place for the pic. I assume you were re-aligning the clutch from when you replaced the pilot.

Last we'd heard, you were having your axle fixed and you were also investigating whether your driveshaft Ujoints were in phase also pointing at a possible reason why you were getting those noises. Did anything pan out there or was the driveshaft fine? I guess you could create another thread to update us...

I'm really looking forward to hearing how the 3.27 gears in the RE will work out with improving your 1st gear usability and 5th's engine RPMs at high speeds. I know you said your tach wasn't quite accurate, but you know ballpark what it was and have something to compare to with the new gears, even if the numbers are off. oh and thanks for the correction on the other thread...3.08 gears.

Sorry tranny's been back in for a few days now.

Axles were straightened, flanges machined. Drive shaft checked out OK. Still putting the rearend together. Hopefully I'll have a chance to get it finished this week.
