T5 harness

Post by blk94xlt »

Malcolm, since you have had your T5 in and out of the truck so many times I thought I would ask what your wire harness for the T5 looks like. I bought a harness that was SUPPOSED to be for a 79-93 5.0 mustang T5, but it does not fit my transmission that is also SUPPOSED to be from a 93 mustang cobra. I hope that its the harness that I got screwed on and not the tranny. How many connectors do you have at the transmission and what are they for functionally?

My T5 harness has a few extra wires I don't use. I can't remember what all extra wires were in there right off the top of my head.
All that's used is the two O2 sensors and the neutral switch now that I've swapped out the top cover on the T5 which has the neutral switch.

The backup lights and speed sensor wires come from the original Ranger harness. The backup light connector just plugs right onto the tranny like it was made for it and of course the speed sensor is part of the speedo drive gear assembly which fits right into the T5 like it was made for it.

Now that I think about it I started out with the 94-95 style T5 harness and the connector that plugs into the engine harness is not the same. I had to get the 93 style.

I think that I have got the correct harness. Do you have any pics of your T5 that show the type and locations for the sensors? I would like to compare it with what my transmission looks like. Something here doesn't make sense.

This is the best pic I have, not sure it helps any. The neutral switch (1) is not installed in this picture but it has a pig tail about 6 inches long. 2 is the backup lights and 3 points to the spot where the speedo cable and speed sensor goes.

The only connection to the T5 from the so called T5 harness is the neutral switch. Everything else on the T5 comes from the Ranger's existing harness.
The other two connectors on the T5 harness would be the two O2 sensors.

Here's a pic of a T5 from D&D with that 6" dongle.

When I got the T5 harness I expected it to plug into the sensors themselves. It seems a little pointless to me to have a harness that short to connect the sensors to the main T5 harness.
Looks like I need to get a couple of 6" dongles as chris put it.
There's no way in hell that I'm typing that into my browser to see what pops up though.

Actually I think I know why they have that tiny little harness. I melted the passanger's side on the header when I first got my truck running. Woops. It saved me from ruining my main harness. Just pulled the little one out and fixed it up. Just a thought.
