Snapped a half shaft on the Cobra

Post by MalcolmV8 »

I think some wheel hop is partially to blame for this and not just sheer power but playing around on the local drag strip, nailed 2nd gear and bang. Snapped the driver's side half shaft in the IRS

looks like too much traction rather than wheel hop. either way sorry about your luck and VERY NICE. got a buddy thats ready to break the seal on his lightning. hope to break some parts real soon.

I wish it was to much traction. I'm running sumitomo street tires and traction is an issue. My pipes are not very loud and the guys at the track tell me all they hear is supercharger screaming and tires squealing as I come down the track. Pretty funny.
Anyhow that IRS in stock form is just horrible with wheel hop when the tires slip. It feels like a jack hammer going off in the back of the vehicle. I guess later this winter or early next summer it's time to replace all the bushings etc. in the IRS and get rid of that wheel hop.

That's awesome :!: But I'm not sure you quite feel that way.

Perhaps they make stronger axles in the aftermarket?

is the darker coloration on the shaft side indicate breakage at an earlier time or is it just light from the camera?

They do but at $1500 a pair I won't be getting a set just yet. I got a brand new stock replacement unit for $175 shipped to my door.
Well my local dealer wanted $394 + tax but I lucked out and found a guy who bought one and ended up not needing it.

I think just light from the camera. It's only broken once. The guys on the side of the track didn't hear anything but I heard a loud bang inside the car as it snapped.
