I've wondered that myself, but since my Ranger swap is not a performance installation, but rather an Explorer V8 stock installation designed around being a daily driver, I've never looked into it.

Good question...

tires

I bought some used 99 stang 17's 245/45/17 and they fit well. no overhang out of the fenders. almost twice as wide as the stock 14's hope it helps.

I am looking to put the largest tire possible. I was thinking about switching the springs (right to left and left to right) and moving the springs inside theframe rails. I thought that I read somewhere that a 17 - 18 tire would fit w/o tubbing.

I was running some old G-60 15 rims back quite a few years ago on my '87' with no rubbing, 5.5" back spacing. Think that size equates to a 255 or 275 now.

now that's more along the lines of what I needed to hear. I'm looking into getting a set of the fr500 wheels, and wanted the deep dish 10 inch wide rears. Well, I'm getting them regardless of if they will fit, because I will MAKE them fit if they don't want to at first, with building a 347 myself I want to run 10 inch wide rears to have a chance at some traction.

I have 255-40-17's up front on 9 inch wheels, and 315-35-17's on 10.5 Cobra R' copys. I have a reverse shackle setup and I have no rubbing...

Urtoast, are those Nitto tires? The tread sure looks familiar. I was running 275/40/17 on 17x9" rims on my 03 Cobra. I then switched to 315/35/17 Nittos and found the 9" rim was just not enough. The center of the tire would be smooth within 3k miles no matter what pressure I ran the tires at. I just switched to 17x10.5" rims 3 days ago and put a fresh set of Nittos on. We'll see if I can make it past 3000 miles :)

Yea they are Nitto's I have been told even though they are 315-35's that they run small compaired to BFG's so I would watch tire selection with this size. I think you will be alot hapier with the wider wheel, 9 inch wheels are a bit small for a 315 or so tire.. Good luck, I dont have but about 5 miles on mine so I cant tell you about how long they last..

wow....those rears DEFINITELY have the look. the only problem I have is my truck is 4+ inches lowered, so i need my tires to clear fenders, although i've already cut and lipped the fronts.
P.S. hey urtoast, wanna get rid of one of those foxes in the background???? :D
Is that a s/c on the white one???

I want to lower mine a bit more, I think I can go another inch or so + travel, and it will still be ok. I have a small wheel spacer bringing it out from the spring a bit, it might work with a 4inch drop but you would be pushing it. I will let you know, when I get my tractor back, I intend to load the bed with the bucket, and see if it rubs....

As for the Foxes.. The Silver one is Stock except for some Maximum motors sports stuff, the white one has a 347 with a S-trim.. Thats the one I'm trying to keep up with in the Ranger.

hows that setup work for you in your fox? that's kinda funny. I've started building a d.s.s. 347, and i want to put an s-trim on it, with the stronger block and the right components, i'm aiming for about 400hp before the s/c. we'll see what happens. it's already an endless money pit. The pit, not the money. haha...

Good so far.... I call it my ticking time bomb! It's a 347 using a stock block, with IRON GT-40P heads with some port work, a X-303 Cam, 1.65 RR's, Performance products intake, 255 intank pump, TRex, Aftermarket rails, 36 Lb injectors, and about 14 lbs of boost....On 110 octane with the MSD on 0 I hit 515 HP at the wheels, I'm unsure of how long it will last like this, but it has been togther for about 3 years, and is used as my weekend toy, driven about once a month or so...As you can see most of it is not the top of the line stuff, but it works well together... I'm sure with a blower cam and some heads it would be faster... ONCE!

Those are VERY respectable numbers running stock components. I'm also looking at a paxton novi 2000 as a choice for a s/c also. we'll see what happens, like I said, this hobby isn't cheap. keep us updated on your wheel clearances..... It'll maybe make it easier, as I have some 18x9 and 18x10 fr500's on backorder.
