Post by Ranger Dave »

anyone have/had one?? are they a decent engine?? what was/is your gas milage??Thinking about a engine swap.2.9 ta 2.3,but thats only if it gets better gas mileage than my 207,000mi 2.9.Now that gets 23 to 25mpg with 3:73's,235x15's and a 5spd.Just wondering what the 2.3 got

got one in a 94 with 215k miles. still gets 23-25 mpg. 5sp-man, 3.45 rear. stock 225-70-14 tires. they were in rangers from 89-97 then became a 2.5 from 98-01.

I had the later version, the 2.5. Got 27 mpg on the interstate but with the 3.45 gearing and stock tires, found it really lacking on power at 70 mph in some cases. Was really snappy around town with the manual and fun to drive. Never a bit of problem with it.

Brother-in-law has one and he says he averages 25mpg. I know he is not a Hot Rodder so it is driven pretty easy. Also we live out in country, and he works in the country, so there isn't much city driving on it. Just thought I would pass that info on.
