302 headers with AOD

Post by painterdude923 »

Hey everyone! I have 97 ranger putting mild 302 with a newly rebuilt AOD. I have heard that the patriot tri-y's wont work with that trans. I had an 84 with 302 and a c4 tranny with the tri-y headers. what headers will work best?

Large tube shorty headers

I bought a set of stainless mustang shortys and the drivers side flange comes way to close to the rear of the engine where the trans bolts up and I have to modify the header to work. I figured if I have to modify a header, I would rather modify the patriot try-y headers. I am trying to find out what would be the best way to go?

Hey Grumpy, big difference in the bellhousing size of your T-5 157T and the 164T for the AOD. A lot wish there were more good options for the 164T housing. For a mild build, the stock cast iron Explorers might work, they will fit. One of the heddman seriers will work but have to clearance the frame a bit. With a torch, sawzall and some thought, might get them Tri-Y's to fit and look good.

I think people on here have said they were able to bend the Tri-Ys enough to work with the AOD. But that's purely from memory. I could be mistaken on that.
