Mechanical fuel pump?

Mechanical fuel pump?
Working on my brothers 1986 Ranger carb 302 swap. He's wanting to eliminate both electric fuel pumps and replace with mechanical pump. Other than the L&L inverted pump, is there any other mechanical pump that'll clear the gear box? Is anybody running a mechanical pump on their swap?

Re: Mechanical fuel pump?
Some people say sometimes the stock standard one will work, depends on too many things to tell for sure.
The inverted pump you need is from a 70-74 Econoline. Think the NAPA part is BSHN6813. Best to take a picture of what tht L&L pump looks like for comparison.

Re: Mechanical fuel pump?
If it has the two electric pumps ,one in tank(low pressure) and the one mounted on frame ( high pressure) you can remove the frame pump and the tank pump will work for carb. My (1987) has been like this for several years.

Re: Mechanical fuel pump?
Well, that was my plan but he wants to eleminate everything associated with the stock fuel injection system. I guess its understandable since he has had quite a few problems with it. It's been a great truck with over 200,000 miles on the 2.9L with no major work but now its starting to have various electricial bugs that he's getting tired of chasing. He wants something simple, easy to fix.

Re: Mechanical fuel pump?
just wanted to confirm what 87sc302 said, we did the same thing on my son's truck and all is good. As long as the pressure pump was mounted to the frame the in tank pump only put's out like 7psi and works great on a carb. We too have ran it that way for years.
