Help with parts needed for 2000 Explorer Ecu swap

Post by Soul »

Car is 88 turbocoupe 331 carb swap. Going to try and mount top end of 2000 explorer on my car and use the 4r70w.

I have the ecu and complete engine + harness and body harness.

So I will need a maf correct? and if so what would work best, I noticed SVO lightning ones are cheap. Bigger injectors, looking at 30lbs
ECU is the eqe3, not sure if there is better.

Where is the safe break point in the harness? Can I just snag ecu point forward or do I need any of the body fuse block? I have the fuel pump wired with relay from summit and the transmission will be manual control. For the coil packs, where is the pickup? If it is on the timing cover or balancer I'm in trouble as I have the 90 mustang cover which is different and a 28oz balance.

If you need more info let me know, I'm bad about thinking about something while typing and it comes out half way.

Well, how compete is that motor? You will need the balancer, has the pick-up gear built in and has the 50 oz balance. If that 331 is 28, have to get the Explorer one balanced to work. TeddyZee is a good one on the wiring. I think the main break point is the 42 pin connector, no need to go pass the firewall. Lots of other things to think about.

I don't supose you have the wiring diagrams for the Explorer. Think I have them scanned in at least for the ECU wiring. I'll check to make sure I have the right ones if you need them. The site Ford Fuel Injection might have a lot of good info on the '88' as far as those wirings.

Ya I have a diagram of the explorer, I may just keep my Carb and drop this in the ranger then, put 4r70 in my car and c4 in truck. Some 4.11's in the truck and just play with it at the track.

Althougth if you do happen to find your's I wouldn't mind it. I found some for the Tbird but some were WAY better than others. The one on Roth Fam's site is the best I've seen (for tbird).

Remember, the 4r70 needs a computer or expensive stand alone controller. If the T-Bird is for track, maybe the C-4 would be better.
Trying to get some outside work done before it hits 90 degs, then back in for a cold one/two and see what I have in my files.

You can get a valve body to make it full manual (no electronics except for toggle for overdrive and convertor) for 650 from broader performance. Considering controller is 500 that is fine with me.

Sounds like controller is $150 cheaper. Why not go that route? Also don't forget if you just go with an ECU that supports the 4r70w then no controller or valve body swap is required.
