Braking power

does anyone have manual brakes on their ranger with a v8. if i just put a master cylinder on with a bigger bore will it make a big difference in how good the truck stops, or do i have to get bigger calipers. If i need bigger calipers is their some sort of kit for putting bigger calipers on an 85 ranger

There are kits to upgrade your brakes but just a master cylinder won't do it. Mine has manual brakes and with the 5 speed it isn't too bad (not real good either). I think if it had an automatic I would be upgrading.

where can i find these kits? any ideas?

Mustangs use a diffrent brake peddel arm for nonpower assited brakes to help apply more pressure to the brake master cyl. I would think that the Rangers would to. The brake peddel arm has the pin that the master cylinder pushrod hooks to moved up so that it will multiply more pressure with less effort from the driver.

If you want better braking performance, you can swap the front end to 1995-97 brakes. They are huge twin piston calipers (larger than my Cobra calipers).

This requires '95/'96/'97 spindles/rotors/calipers, and the "newer" style ibeam (1989-'97) than you have.

how can i use those calipers when they bolt on to the knuckle when mine has pins holding the caliper?

That's where replacing the spindles comes in.

Your talking about replacing the whole steering knuckle to a late 90's ranger and it will still bolt right up with my i-beams and ball joints?

im even interested in this topic............ as if i can upgrade my brakes on my 90 to the 95 up ........... im game... just need a list of all the parts that ill need to get from a yard ....lol

You will need '89 to '97 beams if you have an '83-'88 Ranger.

Then you need '95-'97 spindles rotors and calipers.
Your springs and radius arms can stay.
'97 Ranger Supercab.
