Summit Racing sells these for ~$28+tx & s/h. Once it's all said-n-done, it's about $40 for one of these. Anybody know where I can pick one of these up for cheaper?

Maybe make a holder out of a old shoe box? Cut holes in the lid to hold the lifters and holes in the bottom for the pushrods. Yes, I'm cheap! Even a piece of cardboard would work for the pushrods.

I made a tool to pull and install the cam also at one time. Just got a $2.50 replacement handle for a BFH and a double threaded rod, wood screw on one end and the correct machine thread on the other. Handle had an oval shape for a better grip with your oily hands. Cheap and you still have a replacement handle! I said I was cheap.

Absolutely, hence my not wanting to spend $40 if I don't have to. After Dave's suggestion, I'm thinking if I'm going to pay that much, I'll buy a shoebox for $50-60 and get a new pair of shoes out of the deal.

Chris, got to thinking the other night about just why you need to separate the lifters and pushrods anyway. You're going with a new cam and got different rocker arms so it's not you have to match wear patterns. Think with the lifters, they can go in any bore without problems. Maybe I'm thinking too much again.

Right. I will be replacing the cam. And as you say, the roller lifters on the cam shouldn't be a big deal. I was thinking more along the lines of the wear pattern of the lifters in their bore and the lifters with their pushrods. But if you believe those issues to be far less important, then I'll just put them together in a crappy food-stained rubbermaid box and not worry about the order at which they were pulled.

Not sure there is much wear at all in the lifter bores, have to check. When reusing the pushrods, one book says to swap them end to end. The end at the lifter gets very little wear while the end at the rocker gets a lot more, it said to look for the wear pattern.

Back at ya. Thought it was a common practice to do a very light hone on the lifter bores. Just some green Scotch Brite will clean up the O.D. of the lifters.

We always use a pizza box lol, jab the pushrod through the top lid.

Glad to see this up again. Looking at that plastic lifter holding box, sure looks like flat tappet lifters in there. With them it is important to keep them matched to the cam lobes. But like I said earlier, you're changing the cam and rockers and the lifters. On several engines with miles on them, I have tossed the push rods and started out with new clean, straight ones. Did find picture of that tool I made to pull/install the cam. Clean, cheap, easy to use and re-cycleable.
