Transmission Crossmember

Post by 88ranger306 »

Hey fellas the tranny mount is welded to my crossmember, and is broken. The truck has a c4 in it. I'm assuming I can get another stock crossmember?
if it has wheels or tits it will give you trouble.

Cant you use a grinder with a cutoff wheel and cut the weld? That shouldnt bee too unless the person used plug welds.

That's the strangest thing welding a transmission mount which consists of a huge amount of rubber that would heat up to much and even burn.
Anyways just grind it off or just grab a replacement stock cross member from a junk yard.

yeah i'll prob just use the cutoff wheel on it. As far as a new mount goes, is it a universal mount for most ford trannys or is it special for the c4?

Jest get a mount for a C4 from a truck or car. You may have to drill new holes or make spacers or something to mate up to the crossmember but it shouldnt be too bad.

Just as a heads up, the holes on the transmission mount for my 94 2wd line right up with my 79(ish) c4.

I dont know if a transmission mount from something else would be a different height or not.

I just went to advance auto today and picked up the tranny mount. It was only ten bucks, works for me!
