Whats up with all the advertisements?

Post by usmcrp1044 »

I've noticed all the ads pop up today. I've been not clicking on the obvious ones, but today I just read the name of the thread and clicked it. Turned out to be some porno thing. Had to hit the back button real quick before I had to explain it to the girlfriend.

Is it some kind of automated program I'm guessing?

I haven't hit an ad yet but there's a porno posted in the General Discussion.
If someone knows how to get ahold of Malcom, it'd be nice to get that one pulled.

Sorry guys I'm trying to put a stop to them. I'm assuming its an automated program they have somewhere adding those posts. Best thing right now is to not reply to those posts as I can mass delete all posts made by a spammer but if anyone's replied to one of their posts I have to do each one manually.

OK guys I've set it up now that anyone new who signs up on the board has to be approved by me before they are allowed to make any posts. So hopefully I can spot these misfits and just delete their accounts.

I considered doing that, but there were so many automated account attempts being made that it was difficult to filter the bogus users from the legitimate ones. Let me know how that goes.

What I'll be doing over on EECTuning.org is basically blocking any user hitting the forum from a non US, UK, Canada, or Austrailia address. We have quite a few UK and Austrailian users, so I don't want to ban them. But I seriously doubt there are that many EEC Tuners in Shrilanka, China, or Russia. Although the majority of the ones that hit here that also hit on EEC Tuning were coming from Germany.

The unfortunate part is doing this probably will abandon at least one person until they can get me what IP they hit the forum with so I can unblock their range.

Yeah my other plan is to maybe modify the sign up page and put a new field that has to be filled in. That would throw off the automated programs but a real person would see it and fill it in. I did that on the old board software and it worked very well but I haven't dug into this code yet to see if I can do it again or not.

Most of the spam on this site has been coming from Russia, Germany, China, and Virgin Islands.

This site may be of use then:
http://www.blockacountry.com/

I also have a program that will convert this list of IPs to actual ranges that can be copy/pasted into the admin page on the forum.
