Alternator wiring problem

Post by jbaer619 »

hey guys its been a while!! Anyways the truck is finally done..... well almost, I need a new powersteering pump, I need to wire up my alternator, and thanks to a recent ticket I need to put mufflers on it :( (I really liked the way it sounded without mufflers!!!) But anyways I really cant figure out how to wire up my alternator..... at the end of the harness it has three wires. one white/black, one green/red, and one yellow/white that hooks up to the starter relay. Thanks guys

thanks, the wire colors are different but I basically kinda tied it in. But the diagram you set me didnt have the locations for the LG-R or Y-W. Those are the ones I need to find homes for... was that the page the dog got?

gn/rd comes from the gauge in the cluster to the regulator. ye/wh comes from the starter relay, through the engine fuse box, to the regulator.

as much as it hurts me to say this, the GM style alternators are apiece of cake to wire up and they are cheap. just my $.02. They have always bolted right up for me with the exception of drilling out the pivot hole out to 1/2 inch. It's all i have been running on my SBFs for about 10 years now.

there is the super easy one wire or just the regular 3 wire (cheapest). The main wire conects directly to the battery, one wire from the plug loops around to the wire that hooks up directly to the battery (full time hot) and the other hooks up to an ignition wire (can use the wire running to the starter). this wire just entergizes the alt.

Im not familar with how the newer 5.0's wired up but for the old setups, you cant go wrong with the GM alt.
