93 Ranger Ring Gears

Post by pkjorlie »

Is it possible to swap out ring gears in a 4x4 Ranger?

My Ranger is a 91 axle code (3.27 ratio) and I'd like to go to a 3.73 or 4.10 limited slip for better towing.

It might be easier to swap out the whole axle. I have an explorer axle. Just need to weld on new perches and shock mounts. It was well worth it. Rear disk brakes is very nice.

Paul,
Guess who? We used to sleep with our heads 12" apart, ring a bell?

Paul and I were room-mates some 20 years ago so the 12" comes from adding the wall thickness plus our beds in separate rooms. He used to say the same line when we were at a bar trying to pick up chicks.

Best, cheapest thing to do is to find a bolt in complete rear end. I just picked up a 4.10 complete rear for about $350 here locally, going in the 4x2. I'd give you the 3.55 out of one of the Rangers but no posi. I've been using the Richmond Gear No-Slip in the 2000 for over 30K miles with no problem. You are still going to have to deal with the front end, cost is the only problem, no big deal

Thank God Dave and I have moved on to more interesting relationships since then. Although I think Dave has had more luck sleeping with trucks than I've had with women.

Anyway, I'm thinking I'd be better off getting a different truck for towing. My brother has a 3/4 ton Chevy he'll sell me for a grand.

The Ranger still runs out great, don't burn oil and gets 20 MPG. Why mess with it?
