L & L oil filter adapter

Post by cjcnomor4 »

Anyone find a replacement o-ring for the block adapter? Better yet, has anyone taken it off and reused it without leaks? I have to turn mine to get my oil lines on and its been there a while. I dont want to have to go back in after I find out that it leaks. I have called L&L twice and no one seems to want to get back to me. I'm not all that interested in spending another $100 for another adapter just because they wont answer a question.

Any hydraulic shop ought to be able to set you up a lot cheaper. Standard sizes based on o.d. and thickness. Need to match the right material also, something compatable with oil, usually Buna "N". "Mike" the dia of the housing groove and the depth.

If you oiled it or greased it before you put it on I would just loosen it, turn it and retighten. I have reused many O rings with no problems. We have never had any trouble with the one on my son's. I wouldn't use any other kind if I ever do another one.

The hydraulic shop I got my oil lines made at gave me 2 of those rings as replacements. The original seal I used on the V6 relocation adapter had been there for at least 8 years and after that amount of time, it was flat and brittle as can be. The replacement stopped the leaking but it didn't stay in the truck long enough before the V8 conversion to start leaking again. But what I did just to be sure was put some silicone around the outside of the O-ring before installing it on the motor.

However I forgot to do that when I installed the L&L adapter on the V8. And as a result, it started leaking on its own and required retightening about 6 months in and again here recently. The bolt is on about as tight as I'm comfortable tightening it. So if it starts leaking again, it'll need a new ring and I'll be sure to use silicone around the edges then. I think the same would work for you especially in your case since the seal has never been heated...if you are concerned about it leaking.

I dont remember if i oiled the oring or not. Hitting up a hydraulic shop isnt a big deal, its the principle. you spend almost $300 on an oil filter relocator, a return phone call would be nice. even if its a 'no, we cant sell you just the o-ring'.

That was my beef with Total Performance and why I decided to make my own slave cylinder setup. It ended up being substantially cheaper than their setup and reused more stock equipment than I originally expected. I've VERY happy with what I came up with.

I need to pull my L&L block adapter to reseal the hoses connections there that have a slow leak. CJ let me know how that goes, I was wondering myself.
