F-150 brakes

Post by bigburl »

It would appear that I overextended the pistons on the left front brake caliper. (200- f_150 240,000 miles) I've tried to push the pistons back into place with a c-clamp and cannot get any movement. Is there a repair proceedure for this or is it new caliper time?

There might have been a repair procedure before the C-clamps. If the piston got lodged sideways, then trying to force it with the C-clamp likely put groves in the piston and/or cylinder wall that would have to be machined out. How old is the truck? If it's more than about 6-7 years, then new calipers are probably not a bad idea anyway. Get a loaded set from Advance/AutoZone and they come with brake pads. The only problem I have with loaded calipers is I don't get a say in the pad quality. I usually run Ceramic brake pads just to help reduce the dust and because they are a superior friction surface to the cheaper ones. The ones that come on the loaded calipers are likely a quick-wear/high-dust.

What I do is use a small board and put it over the piston and then use the c-clamp. This distributes the force evenly.

Try opening the bleeder and the piston should go back in.
Had to do it on a Cadillac the other day.
