Then and Now

Post by Dave »

Before our company moved out West, I was put in charge of cleaning out a lot of the files. Ran across this picture of a 60 hp (?) stationary flathead power unit. the governor that we built is up where the generator usually was. Sat in the lobby of the Willow Run Ford plant early 30's.

Then I ran across this monster of a boat motor (on E-Bay), Ford of course, built for one of them 40 ft off shore race boats. Who know what the hp of this beast would be, 3000-3500 maybe.

Awesome. I'd love to have one of those real working mini v8 motors to play with but they cost thousands.

Malcolm,
Are thses the 1/4 scale running engines you would want?

http://www.replicaengines.com/

They are absolutly beatufily crafted. Everything is correct except for the larger fluid passageway. He even makes his own spark plugs.
The Aurora IRL V-8 motor is going for $7500.

Those are cool too but the one's I like fit in your hand. I saw some R/C cars with them on the net and they were $15k each.
I've also seen a really cool little v8 a guy built as a machining project. It even had a functional blower on it. Very cool.
