oil dip stick question

I rebuilt a 1990 302 with 70 351 dooe heads. I bought a new chrome dip stick and a swap meet, cant figure out what it is supposed to mount to? can anyone help with this?

On my Explorer blocks, there's a machined out area with a drill hole down to the oil pan on the right side of the engine where a dipstick goes.

BTW that's not my engine, just some random pic I found off a Google Search. But as you can see, the dip stick slides into that hole and secures to one of the exhaust bolts via a tab that's spot-welded to the tube.


I seem to recall older Windsor oil pans had some kind of dipstick provision coming out of the side where a tube goes instead of dropping down to the oil from the block.

As for where those fastened, I have no clue.
