Are there OHC conversion kit for Windor blocks?

Post by cgrey8 »

I was just wondering if anybody made SOHC or DOHC heads that bolts to a Windsor. If they had, what all is involved in getting that working. Does it do VVT/VCT? What intake and exhaust headers would it work with (4.6L, std 5.0, or custom)? And more importantly, what are the gains?

Chris,
Do a Google on Gurney-Westlake heads, that's the only one I have ever heard of. Used to run them with the indy cars on the SBF's. Ran good but better have some really deep pockets for them. Last I saw, they run about 20-25K. Haven't seen anything done in the later years. Way too many improvements made over the years. The latest 5.0 is partly based on that Indy car, that's where the Coyote name came from. Both Malcolm and I can get close to 500 rwhp and around 20 mpg and still be a mild a very streetable car. See Ford now has a stand alone wiring harness and computer for the 4.6 3V motor. What are you looking for?

Actually back in the mid to late sixties someone developed a sohc kit for the 289 and had one in a Mustang.
I remember seeing the kits for about 2 months in car magazine articles and then they just went away. Rumor was that Ford bought them out. I never really saw one myself. It was about the same time Pontiac was using the OHC sixs in Firebirds.

Not sure if these are the SOHC engines but I think so. Nice set of headers! These are what was run at La Mans in the GT-40's

I like how they take some of the cylinders from one side of the engine and run it over to the other side.
