99 Ranger air bag problem

Post by plowboy34 »

OK I finally took on a body work job. A 99 Ranger that was hit in the front end. It hit hard enough to pop the air bag. I now have the truck back together but the air bag light is flashing at me and driving me nuts... :x :x :x It is flashin a code I believe, it is either a code one(1) and a code (9) or it is a nineteen(19) any info that you have would be greatly appreciated.... :D :D :D Oh yea, everything else in the steering wheel works, cruise control, horn, etc. Only thing not working is air bag so it's not the clock spring in the steering wheel, besides I replaced that just to make sure....$50 FOR NOTHING....   PLEASE HELP

I had the air bag light flashing problem when I replaced the air bags on my daughter 95 Mustang about three years ago .I had been told by the guy I bought the air bags from that it sometines with takes the system time to reset its self, he told me to drive it for a while before having the unit reset by dealer.

It took me about a 2 months to get my daughter to stop driving long enough so I could take it to the dealer. But before I could get to dealer the light quit flashing. I assumed the light had burnt out, but after checking the light in ignition mode it was still working.

I also changed the air bag module when I replaced the air bags.

good luck

LFC 19 is RCM crash data full. You'll need to replace the RCM.

This is really wierd, as I was driving tractor yesterday I had the thought I sure need cjc to chime in again. I hadn't seen ya in a while. Low and behold there you are. Thanks so much dude, Now any chance you know where that is on a 99 Ranger....LOL I don't even begin to know this electronic stuff....just an old fogie tring to learn. Again thanks for the info though, maybe I'll just get one then start searching everywhere for the match.

its under the cupholder on the tranny hump. disconnect the battery, replace the RCM and reconnect. hit the key, the light should prove out then go out. If you get any other flash codes let me know.

any time a vehical is hit hard enough to set off the air bags you have the replace the module. I have been able to even get one at a junk yard. Just make sure if you do get one there, that the air bags have not been deployed. In NY state you cant buy used air bags at a junk yard, but you can buy everything else that runs them. You also should replace the sensor in the front. Usually they are attached to the core support somewhere.
