PATS Wiring

I've got my engine in and everything is ready to go but I've got a problem. After uploading the tune to the PCM, the first time I turn the key on the fuel pump will run briefly. The engine will kick over like it's going to start but doesn't. After that, when I turn the key on, the fuel pump doesn't run. Now the tune I am using has PATS disabled so I did not put the PATS module in. My truck is a 2003 type-E PATS so it never had a PATS module and there will be no harness to plug it in to. Do you think the absence of the PATS module could be causing the issue? I'm thinking the even though PATS is disabled, all that does is tell the module not to worry about a signal from the key and transceiver and always send an "OK to run" signal to the PCM. Since there is no module the PCM doesn't get any signal. One other thing, if I return the PCM to stock and then upload the tune again, the fuel pump will once again run the first time the key is turned on. Anyone have any thoughts?

I wish I knew the answer to that, but I'm fairly sure the guys at eectuning.org will. It used to be the 89-95 Mustang EEC strats were the most popular. But as time rolls on, those are becoming less and less popular, harder to find, and more is learned about newer EECs. So those EECs are kind of yesteryear today. But the era of EEC you are talking about is right amongst what's most common and popular to start projects with today. So I'm fairly sure there are people that will know how to diagnose this.

The catch is, your tuning hardware/software may not be up to the task. I don't know what it is, but if it doesn't give you the ability to datalog, only write tunes, then it may be too limiting. And as it relates to the newer stuff that has to connect to the EEC via OBD-II ports, I don't even know what the recommended hardware and software would be.
