Re: Ranger frames

My best Guess would be '93 to '96....But....Is the frame the same for a regular cab and a splash? Regular cab may have extra supports for the wider box. Have you gotten under a '93 reg cab to look?

Re: New Guy Here

Dave's old buddy here. Having had both a C4 and a C5 apart and side by each, I really can't tell the difference (and I'm a Mechanical Engineer). I'm told that you can change a C5 into a C4 by using a C4 valve body and filter kit. I just swapped out valve bodys in a C5 from a 1985 bronco II. The filt...

Re: C4 and Gas Mileage

Dave was just a big meanie but he sure has lightened up in his old (I mean old) age.

Thank goodness he switched from Dodge to Ford. I bought an average '84 Bronco II and he had to one up me by buying a '84 Bronco II XLS.

Oh, the stories we could tell! LOL!

Re: C4 and Gas Mileage

OK here's the scoop. It seems like the tranny is starting out in 2nd gear and theres some slip when shifting to 3rd.

If I start out manually with the lever in first it really winds out in 1st, shifting to 2nd it kicks pretty good, shifting to drive, there's a little slip as it kicks into 3rd.

Re: C4 and Gas Mileage

Now Plowboy that's just a little to obvious for an edgecated engineer like me to have thought of. Thanks. Remember, Dave is a Rockford IL transplant and we used to beat each other up (when we were roomates in the 80's) over the Packers/Bears. I'm glad he's finally seen the light. To bring up racing,...

C4 and Gas Mileage

I'm running a C4 behind my 302 and it still slips a little going into 2nd. I'm also not feeling the tranny shift to 3rd. This may explain why I'm only getting 8 MPG. Any Tranny experts here that can help me adjust the bands properly  ? I know you're gonna ask about a tach, but at this point I ...

1993 Ranger GCWR

I don't have my owner's manual and wondered what my GCWR is. It's a 1993 XLT extended cab 4.0 4x4 with 5 spd Manual Transmission and 3.55 gear ratio. I weighed the truck at my local Cenex Coop and it weighed 4160 lbs with me in it and 3960 without me. That includes the fiberglass topper. My GVWR is ...

Re: Sometimes Things Turn Out Easy Tho

DON'T USE TEFLON TAPE PERIOD. ESPECIALLY ON SOMETHING HOT AND OILY.

It will fail eventually. Take it from an engineer. If you wanna use it on your pipes at home that's different.

Sometimes Things Turn Out Easy Tho

OMG my brand new 302 was leaking engine oil like a sieve! Drip drip drip under the distributor. OMG! what did I put together wrong? Am I gonna lose all my oil pressure? Well, after a little burn on my hand from the header, (so they're hot 24/7 I cant help it) I found out that my buddy that installed...

Re: It is the strangest thing

Jeez, It's a brand new starter! If I keep having problems, I'll have to get one of those low profile starters. Just more work. Either I have to pull back the tranny or loosen the header just to get the starter out! Know how much work it is to pull a tranny back on a 4x4? I got some heat tape and I'l...

It is the strangest thing

When my Bronco II is cold it will start. When It has been run for a while the starter won't turn it over. I can hear the starter engaging. I can't imagine it is the solenoid. Perhaps the starter being so close to the headers (and getting too hot)? All I get is the clicking noise like there's not eno...

Re: Well, here's my V-8 Ride

Thanks Guys, I Just bought a 22x19 racing radiator (two 1" cores) off ebay that was made for ford products and cut hoses to fit. I was able to take out the 2" block between the water pump and the fan and use one belt for the pump, PS pump, and alternator. The radiator sits behind the A/C c...

Re: Anyone had problems with the weight on 5.0 Flexplate?

Ya know Dave and Malcom, I really didn't like the Idea of spacers anyway cuz that concentrates the stress on the bellhousing to only where the bolts are. I know the shield isnt bent so I just took my mototool and rounded the edge of the weight and put maybe a 1/32" taper on it over about a quar...
