93 Ranger Ring Gears

Is it possible to swap out ring gears in a 4x4 Ranger?

My Ranger is a 91 axle code (3.27 ratio) and I'd like to go to a 3.73 or 4.10 limited slip for better towing.

Actually, my stock Astro with 4.3 has no problem towing my 3000# TLB plus 6x12 trailer w/o electric brakes. That has to be at least 4500# total. I would guess your race car and trailer is at least 4500-5000#. I'm only upping the ante by half to a third but adding electric brakes, duals, a V8, and pr...

Well, regardless, I still want to be able to tow a 7000# trailer with a small bobcat (553) or my 3000# Tractor Loader Backhoe.

I'm getting rid of my Astro and I need to to revamp the Ranger so it will tow the TLB.

I don't think I can talk the wife into a new Silverado.

I have to do the same thing on my BroncoII only drove it a short time (couple weeks) and it leaks like a seive. Replaced the front seal and put everthing back together and it still leaked.

Not looking forward to dropping the tranny again, but it's spring and I wanna drive!

Still determined to work a way to pull a small 5th wheel

The trailer I'm considering now is a 2 horse rated at 7000#.

Duals and a stiffer suspension. Maybe a stronger 373 rear axle?

Rebuild and chip the 4.0 or replace with a Explorer V8.

If you drive it long enough, ( like 200k) the dash will begin to remove itself. Like my 93 xlt is doing. It's harder to put back together that way tho cuz all the screws are long gone and you wouldn't know where to put them if you did have them.

I wouldn't even consider doing it without dual rear wheels, Electric trailer brakes and beefing the suspension. The mods to the truck are gonna cost far less than the trailer will. Besides the trailer I'm looking at is only 16' long (behind the truck) and the horses wouldn't cause that much sway bec...

Ranger Towing Capacity W/5th Wheel

I have a 93 Ranger 4x4 Ext. XLT. It runs like a top and no smoke even at 210K. I just redid all of the front end, brakes and put in a new clutch. Dave has a spare 4.0L for me if mine poops out. I'm thinking about fixing up with Rear Duals and a Fifth Wheel Setup for a Three Horse trailer. Anyone kno...

I'm kinda out-numbered here in Madison WI area with all the Kenseth fans, but I have both a Home Depot 20 and a Dewalt 17 sticker on my car.

By the way Plowboy

Plowboy

It does have Genuine Thrush turbo mufflers. I have a spare decal from the second muffler. The envelope it came in says "Thrush...back with an attitude!".

Yup, back in the highschool days (70's for me) Thrush was on every hot rod around school.

Dave's right, altho I didn't use stock drive shafts. Had to have new rear one made and front one modified locally and no more CV joints. Had a floor shifter originally and used that with a new threaded rod for a linkage. Haven't done anything with the xfer case lever yet. I just put it in 2H and lef...

Thanks plowboy. It's unfortunate that Deb never saw this thing run. It has been a project 6 years in the making. It was her car from the git-go. I will think of her every time I drive it. It really is a great ride. Deb and I had a great ride for nearly 19 years, nothing to be sorry for there... Paul

I'd like to thank Malcom for maintaing this site, Dave for his encouragement as a friend and for all intents and purposes as a brother. My 88 Bronco II is running strong and with that little 302 V8, it is an absolute blast to drive. I wanna thank all you guys for your help and also my wife Debbie wh...

I wouldn't have room for a full size pusher either, especially with the vertical bar in front of the A/C condenser.

You might have room tho for two small pushers, one on either side of the vertical bar.
