Re: 98 Explorer into 86 Ranger

There is a very handy chart I use for reference on the home page at TRS, it compares Ranger/Explorer differences over the years for VSS location, fuel rail style, and PATS style.

Re: motor mount plates for 2000 coil suspension??

:)

I hope to swap a V8 in my '01 one day. I think a 3V 4.6 would be nice... With one of those whistling intake manifolds.

Re: 98 Explorer into 86 Ranger

The '98 Explorer has the VSS in the trans.
Early '90s Rangers (and Mustangs will cruise control) had a VSS that accepted the cable as well.

Whether that VSS signal needed to be manipulated before it got to the ECU, I do not know. But the EVTM would certainly show.

Re: Coolant temp sender?

He already has as sender in the thermostat housing.
You could always replace the fan temp sender with one of those probes that sits in the rad :)

I guess by now we could have pulled the intake and had a beer, lol!

Re: Coolant temp sender?

My vote is drill and tap the DS rear of the lower intake, that what I did. (efan, dash gauge, Autometer gauge, in the lower Fr/Rr and thermostat housing)

Re: How difficult is it to replace a steering box?

It's very possible that mine was corroded. I was able to get the arm to move, but the tools were going to break first.

And when my box went, there was no leak- just a torrent of fluid! Fortunately, it occurred as I pulled into my friend's shop!

Re: How difficult is it to replace a steering box?

It's very simple, no tricks. I replaced mine when it blew out the bottom seal. I replaced it with a used one, replaced the pitman arm, too. No freakin way could I get my stock pitman arm off. The puller just laughed at me. Your results may vary. The pitman arm is keyed, though, so you can't put it o...

Re: Grumpy asked about my seats

He also asked about the one piece drive shaft. Also have this: http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o309/teddyzeephotos/shaftSideBySide.jpg 4" driveshaft from an '08 Ranger. Perfect length (2wd manual trans Supercab), but won't fit as my truck is too low. So this will involve cutting a driveshaft...

Grumpy asked about my seats

So I figured I would share the info in public. I installed some "race style" seats in my Ranger, they are Summitracing brand. The sole reason I chose them was for the white vinyl. It was cheaper for me to just buy new ones. They replaced Explorer buckets that were in my ''97 Supercab. The ...

Re: fuel lines

I went new from the fuel filter in the frame rail. Cut the return line, obviously.
Up the frame rail, across the front cross member, then into Fox body hard lines on the front of the engine.
The real reason for all of this was corroded pushlok fittings on the Ranger frame rail.
