Oil always flows from outside the filter to the middle, and up the tube in the middle into the engine.

It's the same philosophy on both the block, and on the filter adapter mounted to your frame.

I used the funky plastic 3-piece "radiator hose splice kit" (Victor brand?) to join the two bottom hose pieces. It's been on for 15 years now, with no troubles. The top was hoses were spliced with a galvanized steel barbed fitting from Tractor Supply, I think. I never liked the way it look...

Well, I am up to 120,000 miles and finally the engine needs to come out. I am guessing a cracked Hypereutectic piston (stock 97 Explr pistons) I have a misfire and a TON of blow-by coming out of the PCV hole! It is so bad it fills the cab with blue smoke..... cough cough! Currently looking for a nic...
