Re: How do you find a spun rod bearing?

I kinda figured that you more than enough help there in KC but the offer is still good. Also, if you would like, I can see about getting you in contact with the buddy of mine as he may have some additional information that he could pass but I'd have to ask him first of course but he is known around ...

Re: How do you find a spun rod bearing?

Just to be clear, I am by no means saying that what happened is your fault and for sure I do not know nearly as much about these engines as I would like to. And of course I would just love to have a Cobra or a Lightning for that matter but my military budget at this point only allows for my wheezer ...

Re: How do you find a spun rod bearing?

I just checked out SVT performance and I'm sold. I think I should just get a Cobra now.

Re: How do you find a spun rod bearing?

Okay, I just talked with him and he said there is a place there in KC called MC Racing that could help you out. Also, one of the things he thinks you may have done is collapse a piston skirt. A lot depends on if you were in 5th or 6th gear and the car was deep into boost. Clearances are so tight in ...

Re: How do you find a spun rod bearing?

Malcom, I'll see my Mustang buddy tonight at work and get more info for you on how to do it. He has the same car. An 03 Cobra that he just installed a Kenny Bell 2.2 charger on it and man let me tell you hazing the tires in second gear at 60 MPH then going into 3rd is just badass. Anyway, I'll get s...

Re: How do you find a spun rod bearing?

Another option that you may consider if you have the space is to drop the sub-frame. Dis-connect everything and drop the whole assembly from the bottom. That way you wouldn't have to remove the booster or evac the A/C system. With the car on the floor, remove/dis-connect everything from the top, rem...

Re: How do you find a spun rod bearing?

Malcom, After talking to a Mustang friend of mine he was telling me that one of the weak links in the corbra motors is the pistions. Even though they are forged they are a lesser forging in comparisson. The Cobra motors even have (new for 2003) a Manley forged H-beam connecting rod. After doing some...

You will see that most Ranger RE's have axles that are different lengths. This is done so that the U-Joints do infact move. MOPAR offset the whole engine and trans, Chevrolet did it by having the back of the trans higher than the pinion angle and Ford did it by having offset RE's If the U-joint is a...

Another option that may have been mentioned already is to use an automotive stethescope (SP) just like the ones used to listen for pulse/heart rate/or used on date night (only kidding). You could also use a piece of wood or even a long screw driver. Along the lines of the bore-a-scope, do you know a...

Malcom, Your 4.6 does have lifters or rather lash adjusters and a set of roller rockers or rather cam followers. The lash adjusters are hydraulic and take up the any slack between the cam. I just did a quick look at AutoZone.com and found the replacement parts. Lifter JB-2271 at 7.99 and the rocker ...

Just for GeeWhiz I found the part number for the MSD 6-BTM. I goes under PN MSD-6462. It's a bit pricey for starters but if it saves an engine from detonating itself to death then it's money well spent. Check out summit to find it.

I just thought I might add to this thread. I think you may have mentioned something about being "old school" and going with a carb set-up. I think I also read something about timing and such. Something to consider would be to look into some MSD products. They have the 6BTM ignition control...

I personally like the E and F cams. I've had very good results with the F cams in the past. It provides the idle quality I think your looking for as well. As for a blow through type carb I hope your good with tuning because from what I know about them they can be very finicky (technical term there) ...

WOW, 800-900 HP, that's pretty ambitious. To put a ranger into the 10's I don't think requires quite that much HP. Does he really know what it takes to build such an engine or for that matter what it takes to maintain something like that? More power to him if he does or can. I also don't know that t...
