I'm partly back again. :? Too many projects to work on the Ranger right now, but I thought I'd let everyone know my website is back up (http://mercuranger.com) I have no idea how long it was down. Domain name registration expired. Lucky for me, I didn't suffer the same fate as fordranger.com Mike

For break-in, no (from what I've been told). Synthetic is too slippery and doesn't let the rings seat properly.

After break-in, who knows? :D

According to Hot Rod and the cam companies, yes. They recommended using the Diesel oil for break-in on a new engine.

Hot Rod had an article on this within the last 6 months.

That's a bummer. No idea what's causing the vibe? Or are you just not interested in going through what you did on the red truck again?

Slightly more progress yesterday. I'm learning to weld on a throttle cable bracket relocation bracket (if that makes sense). This is so the throttle cable will pull from the firewall side of the TB when the HO upper intake is flipped around so the TB is on the driver's side. As a side note, welding ...

Careful with those junkyard websites. My father got burned on a computer for one of my brother's vans. They sent him the wrong one and wouldn't refund him.

Just my $0.02

Isn't your engine stock? I wouldn't think you'd need to tweak fuel curves on a stock engine.

I thought it was in one of the magazines, but I guess they should be taken with a grain of salt as well.

What I remember reading was that they used the Cobra cam since it had less duration but more lift for better idle & torque.

Ah well. Someday I'll come across that article again.

I'm positive I read somewhere that the Explorer V8 used the same cam as the '93 Cobra. For the life of me, I haven't been able to confirm it, though.

My website? I haven't even looked at it in months (maybe a year). Unfortunately, I don't think any updates are in the near future :(

Well, I figured out a lot today, but nothing permanent was done. I figured out which one, where and how I'm going to mount an AIR pump. The stock 2.8's AIR pump is much more compact than the 5.0's, but it still didn't really want to go in the stock location, so I dumped the stock brackets and flippe...

While mine's nowhere's near as pretty as Malcolm's, I used 3" exhaust pipe, also. I used the stock Grand Marquis rubber 90* elbow from the air box and a cheap generic cone filter.
