Re: Plug wires
Chris
Thanks for the recommendation. I have been watching your 331 build and may build one myself but for now I want to learn from you and the others.
Does the stroker kit use 50 or 28 oz balance? are you using forged pistons?

Plug wires
I installed the Duraspark ignition about 2 months ago with new MSD plug wires and they are starting to arc already.
Should I put resistor inline to lower power?
I know this just as about as dangerous as asking what is the best carburator but....
Any recommendations for better wires?
Thanks

Re: Automotive Lifts Advice
True some of the sicissor lifts are very restrictive but some of the newer have extension arms like typical lifts and the mid lifts lift to around 4'. Not the best, but most of my time is wheels, tires ,brake s, oil changes, etc. Will not reolace the ramps / jack stands but would be alot easier on t...

Automotive Lifts Advice
I have been looking at lifts for several years and I always talk myself out of getting one because of the ceiling restrictions. So the other day I found a scissors mid lift for sale used and it got me to thinking again. I know a two or 4 posts lifts are nice but I cannot use one without building a n...

Re: Hobbies?
There seem to be a connection between V8 Rangers and back problems. I had back surgery 5 years ago, no fun but I am much better. I had been jogger for 25 years but the neurosurgeon told me to quit . I had been looking for something to do so last year took up bicycling for exercise. I bought an old H...

Re: Will not idle
IDLE FIXED With the small diameter altenator pulley and the gound that Old trucker suggested-The truck runs and idles great. It should , new carb (summit), duraspark ignition, new plugs, and new MSD plug wires. Thanks everyone for the help/suggestions. I sure had missed driving the truck. Think I wil...

Pinks All Out -Bristol TN
Spent 12 hours last Saturday at Bristol Dragway watching the filming of "Pinks all out". 438 vehicles going for $10K. This was the most fun I have had at a dragstrip in years. In east tn all the dragstrips run 1/8 mile so the 1/4 mile runs were great. Alot of 9 and 10 sec cars/trucks. One ...

Old trucker
Changing the pulley (smaller) on alternator has made the idle much better, at least it is drivable. But I think there is still a ground problem somewhere. I will try the alternator ground, Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Will not idle
I am thinking same thing about alternator, not enough rpm. ASP makes an overdrive pulley.
My question is does Duraspark II system (new to truck) require more power than the pertronix that I replaced?
The truck would idle at 750 rpm with the pertronix.

Re: Will not idle
Voltage starts dropping at idle from about 14.2 to 12 and lower as idle drops off.
The alternator is 75amp with internal regulator.
I am going take the truck and get the alternator checked on vehicle tomorrow.

Re: Will not idle
Plowboy No vacuuum leaks even switched out distributor vacuum advance. The engine will idle at about 950 to1000 rpm but below that the voltage seems to drop. Even at about 950 rpm when I turn on headlights the idle starts dropping. I found several alternator wires that had been spliced and they were...

Re: Will not idle
Replaced the alternator. Both were putting out about 14v.
I do wonder if the Duraspark II requires more power.
The alternator is a 75Amp
I did get the replacement Pertronix back so I may try it.
